THE JUMP
I gave a leap in another world
that brought me shaken into this
and almost remembered
what I’d hurdled
in that place as real as this I feel
a jump prodigious
that leap from sleep
what drop I’d spanned
from another place
with teeth or claws behind
naked I ran a cunning race
what a triumph
jumping to another planet
into a safe bed
bounding heart
fuzzy head
how they must have howled
those pursuing beasts
how I will laugh when I remember
what chased or why.
