FENCED

In Canterbury a farmer grunts
to produce a son
who will walk in the fields
with the sons of the ram
conceived outside
on the same night
with the same grunts
on the same land

the fence constrains the ram
having to fence
constrains the son
grass feeds them both
but the sheep chew it themselves.
